FROM THE DT: Focus on Heidi Swapp Masks!

What are masks?

Masks are shapes or letters made from thin black plastic and are stuck to a laminated white sheet. They have a repositionable adhesive on the back, and may be used in a similar way to a stencil - but you colour the area around the mask instead of the inside as you would a stencil. So you'll end up with a negative image, not a positive as you would with a stencil.
Treat your mask with care, it can be wiped clean, placed back on the backing sheet, and reused over and over again.
You can use acrylic paint, spray paint, dye, ink or chalk with your mask.
You need to take care to press all the edges of the mask down before applying inks or paint. Wetter mediums can seep under the mask and it may lose it's 'stickiness'.

Kim Allard used a mask to trace around and then machine sewed
along the outline to make sweet daisy embellishments
LOVE layout by Kim Streeter using Heidi Swapp mask & texture paste. Once the paste has dried, use a dry paintbrush to swipe paint on top in a colour that
co-ordinates with your layout.
Kim used white Making Memories paint and the Heidi Swapp daisy mask to achieve a graphic black and white effect on a transparency
Dawn used ink in a spray bottle to colour a plain white sheet of cardstock, and achieved a vibrant background for her 'sisters' layout

How to use a mask on a transparency:

Place mask on a transparency. Make sure it has stuck completely. Paint over the mask and transparency, do not water down the paint as this will prevent  bleeding under the mask. When paint is dry remove the mask from the transparency.Cut around the edge of the transparency as close to pattern of the mask as possible. Voilla all done. When attaching the transparency to the layout, place tabs underneath the transparency and then cover with a decoration, so as to hide any evidence of the tape. I placed mine under the flowers on the layout.

Kylie also used acrylic paint for a fun textured effect!
Sam used chalk ink smeared over the entire cardstock and mask.
